In the day and age where most fitness instructors are trying to get everyone to take responsibility for their physical condition and where shows like Biggest Loser show people who are struggling to get in shape one important point is being missed...
It might not be your fault you're out of shape!
What?
That's right...
Mainstream society, the media and most importantly, the marketing machine that lies behind our commercial society is investing millions upon millions of dollars that work against your being healthy and fit.
All this leads me to believe it might not be your fault.
Even though you know you have a choice, you have so much stacked against you, the odds of your being fat and out of shape are immense.
Unless you had the luck of either being able to steer clear of the marketing machine or the misfortune of hitting rock bottom, then there's a good, make that great chance, that you're either a failure with your fitness or on a roller coaster that's driving you crazy.
There are those few lucky ones that have been into fitness all their lives, (like myself) but who still sometimes run into challenges. I can sympathize because of this.
Work and other factors in life can get in the way and drag you down.
I've often had this happen to me in my near 20 years of being crazy about fitness and health.
From training 5 days a week and being super strict about my diet, (one cheat day a week and that just meant I was allowed dessert,) to sometimes training once every two weeks because of work and a lack of time and energy.
Modern life doesn't always lend us a hand at pursuing fitness.
Remember this is coming from a guy who has been a fanatic about being in shape for the past 20 years.
So just imagine how someone with just an interest would fare.
Believe it or not it's important for many people to just realize that their physical condition is not totally their fault... and then the next step is to find someone who understands and is able to help them help themselves.
This includes not just knowledge about exercise technique and programs but also knowledge about how to get others to become and stay motivated.
It can be done with the right combination of knowledge and skill.
Remember, I'm not saying you aren't responsible for changing, you are the only one responsible for bringing changes and improvement on your fitness level. I just want everyone to realize that beating yourself up over it is pointless considering how much we all are marketed crap and it's all around our society and attempting to influence us everywhere we look from McDonalds ads to chocolate bars, to the lifestyles we see all around us, it's time to be aware, take charge and make some changes.
