There has been a huge shift, a revolution even, in the fitness industry in the past decade.
It used to be that the majority of fitness gyms were based around appearance. Walk into any gym and you were sure to see at least several steroid induced physiques, Mirrors everywhere and an air of vanity or at least a strong focus on appearance as the main motivation for the training that was going on.
This has changed though. The success of gyms like Crossfit and Monkey Bar Gym as well as the proliferation of kettlebell training is proof that people are looking for something different.
Call it performance based training. Where people are after functional training methods as opposed to isolation movements where people are trying to shape a muscle.
Over the next few weeks I'll be looking deeper into performance based training and why it is the evolution of the fitness industry into something better.
